“You’ve never heard Dick Cheney open up” the way he does in “Cheney One on One: A Candid Conversation with America’s Most Controversial Statesman,” says author and Fox News Chief Washington Correspondent James Rosen.
Rosen was a guest today on Breitbart News Daily with host Stephen K. Bannon.
The author spent ten hours over three days with Cheney one year ago and says Cheney was “quite candid … acknowledging some of the mistakes that he and George W. Bush made in the various stages of the Iraq War, from the planning stage, to the execution stage, to the reconstruction stage.”
Rosen goes into some detail as to Cheney’s thoughts, including that he still believes going into Iraq was the right thing to do and the world is better off without Saddam Hussein.
Pointing out that Cheney “stood at or near the center of power for four decades, from the Watergate Era right up to Iraq and beyond, Rosen says his goal was to get away from Cheney as caricature (Darth Cheney) to discuss the “profound” influence Cheney has had on America and the way we live our lives. “… he’s too important for caricature,” says Rosen.
The two men also discussed current events and how they fit into historical context.
Said Rosen: “The Rand Corporation did a study that found there was a 58 percent explosion, increase in the number of Jihadist groups from 2010 – 2013 and it can be debated as to what gives rise to that and what role U.S. leadership, or retreat from leadership might play in such a development.”
