On December 8 Fox News reported that more than 100 million  guns have been sold since the election of President Obama.

The significance of that number of guns being sold in that short of time can be best understood by contrasting it with Congressional Research Service figures showing private gun ownership climbed from 192 million firearms in 1994 to 310 million firearms in 2009. That was newsworthy, although it was only 118 million firearms in a 15 years. Under Obama we are talking about 100 million guns sold in less than seven years.

In the wake of the San Bernardino attack Fox News’s William La Jeunesse observed, “Since President Obama was first elected Americans have bought more than 100 million guns. While you often see a spike in local gun sales after a crime spree, today’s increase is nationwide. Not just California.”

And La Jeunesse said that Americans are not just buying these guns to take home and put in the closet. Rather, “they’re taking classes [and] getting permits to protect themselves.”

In a demonstration of a sign of the times, La Jeunesse cited one gun store in Phoenix that is offering free concealed carry courses for every customer who buys a handgun.
