HOUSTON, Texas – An armed Texan broke up a home invasion in the Houston suburb of Spring as two men were leaving with their loot.

The confrontation occurred after two men kicked in the door of an eighty-year-old man in the upstairs portion of his home, KTRK ABC13 reported. The invasion occurred early Monday morning.

A neighbor of the man saw the burglars leaving the home with Christmas presents and a large screen TV and confronted the two men. The men dropped the booty from the burglary and jumped into their getaway car.

The suspects drove towards the neighbor as if to run him over. The man pulled out his pistol and fired about five shots, KTRK reported. The man, who wished to remain unidentified, said he didn’t think he hit anyone but police are checking area hospitals for injuries.

As the suspects were fleeing, their car struck the rear bumper of a pickup truck in the street leaving behind some additional clues.

The elderly man, Harry Wells, was unaware of what was going on because he suffers from partial hearing loss. He first became aware that he had been robbed when sheriff’s deputies were inside his house checking to see if he was okay.

The burglars had loaded most of their haul into the victim’s car which they were also apparently going to steal. His car keys were among the few items missing from the robbery.

“They were loading stuff into my car in the garage,” Wells said to KTRK reporter Elissa Rivas. “I’m missing a set of car keys. Everything they loaded into my car is back in the house.”

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies said no one was reported to be injured in the incident. They are continuing their investigation this morning and checking hospitals for possible gunshot victims.
