A man in Michigan has been convicted of brandishing a gun and threatening three teens who were flying the Confederate flag last summer.
A jury in Jackson, Michigan, took only three hours to return a guilty verdict in the case of 18-year-old Kantpreet Singh who was accused of threatening the teens last July. According to MLive.com, Singh was found guilty on two counts of felonious assault, one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearms.
Jackson County Assistant Prosecutor Steven Idema charged that on July 24, 2015, Singh pulled up next to a pickup truck with both a U.S. flag and C.S. flag flying from its back bumper. Apparently Singh became enraged over the flags.
According to prosecutors, Singh said, “You want to get shot? Cause I will kill you,” while brandishing a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun.
“(The driver) was born and had lived in Alabama before moving to Michigan — he was showing his southern pride and his southern heritage,” Idema said in court documents. “Kantpreet took offense to that.”
This isn’t the man’s first gun-conviction. Singh pleaded guilty to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in October of 2014. He was also found in possession of a gun matching the description from the incident last July.
The jury heard testimony from eight witnesses during the case and, on February 12, found Singh guilty on all counts.
Singh may also face other gun-related charges after he and another man with whom he is associated were found with several unregistered firearms. But in the original case, Singh could face up to five years in prison.
