Rafael Cruz tells Breitbart News Daily host Stephen K. Bannon that last night’s results “clarified that this is a two man race between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump,” going on to add that his son Ted is the only candidate in the race who can take on and beat Donald Trump.
“We have seen that Sen. Cruz is the only one that repeatedly has been able to beat Trump,” Rafael said, adding, “And he is the only viable alternative to Trump. And he will restore America.”
“In the polls that have been done, one-on-one, Ted beats Trump by 17 points,” he went on. The elder Cruz cited his son’s strength with people he defines as Evangelicals, that varied somewhat with what polls use to describe them. He said his son wins overwhelmingly against Trump with the GOP’s more hardcore traditional religious voters.
Asked if the goal is a one-on-one race versus Trump, “Absolutely,” said Cruz.
The elder Cruz also went on to cite several other factors he thought favored his son over Trump. “We need to get to the point where, instead of listening to the rhetoric, we look to the record… Candidates will say what people want to hear. We look at what they do and what they have done.”
Added Cruz, “Ted has a proven Constitutional record, whether it is fighting to keep our second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms, or fighting for religious liberty, or fighting for life, or fighting for traditional marriage, or fighting to protect our national security, he has a proven record. All we hear from Trump are empty promises and, actually, his promises change from day-to-day.”
Ultimately, he said, “It boils down to one thing — trust. Who can you trust to do exactly what he says he’s going to do? With Ted Cruz you have a record of his doing that 100 percent of the time… with Trump we don’t know where he is on any of these issues, because he has been everywhere.” He also cited the importance of Supreme Court appointments by the next President, saying it could be “disastrous” if Trump became President.
“Trump is a train-wreck, we all realize that,” said the elder Cruz.
