Jail escapee Rafael McCloud is dead after allegedly invading a Vicksburg, Mississippi home, taking hostages, then being shot by the homeowner.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

According to WAPT, McCloud was an escapee from the Warren County Jail, where he was held after being “charged in the kidnapping and death of 69-year-old Sharon Wilson, whose body was found last June” in an abandoned building. McCloud escaped from jail on March 2 by “using a shank to overpower a jailer.”

The Thursday morning home invasion occurred on the 600 block of Fort Hill Drive. The Vicksburg Post reports that McCloud allegedly entered the home through the garage, surprising the homeowner who had come outside to start his car. McCloud allegedly held the man hostage, along with “a woman and a toddler.”

MSNewsNow reports McCloud allegedly tied up the man and woman, then stabbed the man once he was defenseless. Yet the man was eventually able to get loose and get his hands on gun. He then shot and killed McCloud.

“The man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.” Neither the wife nor toddler sustained injuries.
