Sheriff Joe Arpaio Calls Out ‘Gutless’ Republicans for Weak Endorsements of Donald Trump

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio torched Republicans on Saturday who refuse to give a full-throated endorsement of the GOP’s presumptive nominee.

“I thought when you endorse someone, you usually mention their name,” Arpaio told a hall in Phoenix packed with Donald Trump’s supporters. “We do have some Republicans who don’t know his name,” said the chief law enforcement officer in Arizona’s Maricopa County.

“Why would you say the [presidential] office and not say who is running for it?” he asked. “It would be wise to say: “I support Donald Trump,” he said. “They need to get a few guts to say that.”

Or there is another reason, he said. “Evidently, they would rather have Hillary.”

The sheriff was joined at the rally by former GOP Arizona governor Jan Brewer.

Arpaio has led the sheriff’s department in the county that includes Phoenix for two dozen years. The sheriff endorsed Trump  in January. “When you are a sheriff, you have to get elected, so I know a little bit about the political system,” he said.
