Former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon’s father and his father’s wife were found dead in their Orange, California, home, their deaths reportedly the result of a murder-suicide, reports say.

Robert Gordon, 68, and his 57-year-old wife were discovered dead by police responding to a 911 call, Fox Sports reported on September 15.

Police discovered the bodies on Wednesday evening after a call from a neighbor. There are also reports that a firearm was recovered at the scene.

“I’m so sad and I can’t believe it,” Robby Gordon said upon learning of the deaths.

“I’d like everybody to understand that this is very, very tough, and it’s not only tough for me, but it’s tough for my sisters Robyn, Beccy and my sister, which is Sharon’s daughter, Hailey,” Robby added. “It’s going to be tough on all of us.”

The elder Gordon, known by many as “Baja Bob,” was a fixture in the off-road racing scene throughout the last four decades. In fact, he won the Vintage Open Buggy class of the NORRA Mexican 1000 just last year. Bob was also a five-time Baja 1000 class champion as well as a three-time SCORE class champion.

Condolences poured in from racers and race fans alike.

Famed racer Dale Earnhardt, Jr., wished the Gordon family his prayers saying, “Hope they find strength and support,” he said.

NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson also jumped to his Twitter account to offer his condolences. “Heartbreaking news this morning. Thinking of the Gordon family and friends.”

Gordon’s sister Beccy only recently married Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay and the pair just announced the birth of their first baby.

Police continue their investigation into the deaths.
