Nine persons were shot and wounded and one person was killed in an attack by the corner of Bourbon and Iberville streets Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 1:30-1:40 a.m.

According to The Times-Picayune, officers with the New Orleans Police Department arrested two men after the shooting, one of whom was among the nine who had been shot and wounded. Both suspects were armed and “were booked on charges of illegal carrying of a weapon.”

NOPD did not say whether the men were charged as suspects in the shooting itself.

CBS News reports that NOPD superintendent Michael Harrison said “the shooting victims whose ages ranged from 20 to 37 included two females and eight males.” The deceased individual was a male who died after being transported to a hospital.

The incident occurred in spite of “an increased police presence for the Bayou Classic football game Saturday night between Southern and Grambling universities.”

Harrison said no motive for the shooting has been discovered, but an investigation into the shooting “is ongoing.”
