VIDEO: Custom Gun Builder’s 4-Year-Old Daughter Pinging Targets with Tactical Rifle

4-Year-Old Shooter

A video posted by C&H Precision’s Buck Holly shows his 4-year-old daughter working the action on a .223 rifle, then staring through the scope, steadying her aim, and pinging the target downrange.

After hitting the first shot, Holly’s daughter pulls back the bolt to load another round, closes the action, stares through the scope and pings another target.

We were sitting at breakfast in Labelle (for those that don't know, Labelle is very small and very country) and a fella…

Holly’s daughter–Noah–was shooting a PRS Tac Rifle in .223 and Holly can be seen holding his hand on the rifle throughout the process. This was clearly done to help Noah steady the gun and to be sure it remained pointed downrange.

Regardless of his obvious efforts to be sure it was a safe shooting and learning experience, the Daily Mail reports that some took to Facebook to express their disagreement with Noah shooting the gun. One such person–Daina Souter–wrote:

I’m all for teaching kids to be safe with guns and to know how to behave around them, but if they’re too young to eve hold the gun properly then they’re too young to shoot it in my opinion. Yes, he’s teaching her the right things, but if something goes wrong and the gun kicks or misfires and she’s not holding it right because she’s so small…

Souter must not have noticed that A) This is .223 (not a lot of kick involved) and B) the father has his hand on the gun the entire time, eliminating the possibility of it kicking back (even if such kick were possible with a .223).

There were others who complained as well, and Holly responded to all of them by saying:

I would invite each and every one of [my critics] to come to the range with me and my family and participate in it. See how things really happen. They got to see a 30 second snippet of a little girl shooting. What they don’t see is the preparation that goes into it. They don’t see her asking and begging for more ammo. So I would tell my critics, feel free to criticize me. That’s our lifestyle. But before you criticize, come and try it and experience it for yourself.
