Neighbor Praises Homeowner for Shooting Burglary Suspect

Shooting of Burglar

A New Haven, Connecticut homeowner shot a suspected burglar after waking up to the sounds of someone kicking in the front door.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on January 16.

According to Fox 61, the homeowner awoke to someone “banging at his front door.” He grabbed his handgun, went to investigate, and allegedly discovered 26-year-old Jorge Ortiz forcing his way into the home.

Police report that the homeowner then shot Ortiz in the shoulder with a “registered handgun.”

Ortiz was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

WTNH reports that the homeowner’s neighbor, Wilden Bunting, said, “Whenever you break in someone’s house in Jamaica we shoot them. So that’s a good thing the guy did. When I get my pay and I get my stuff. I don’t want you to come and steal it ’cause I’m going to shoot you too if I see you. Be honest, that’s the way of life.”
