Left-wing activists booed a Republican congressman at a town hall event in suburban Detroit Saturday after he voiced his support for increased military spending.

Video from the event shows attendees waving red cards and booing loudly when Rep. Dave Trott (R-MI) said he supports the part of President Trump’s budget that allows for increased military spending.

Michigan Radio reports that the crowd also started booing when Trott said he would vote for the American Health Care Act, the GOP’s plan to replace Obamacare, later this week.

The Oakland County Republican Party accused the Democratic Party of sending hecklers to the town hall to undermine Trott, Michigan Live reported.

“The Democratic Party will say and do anything to undermine President Trump’s Administration, the Republican Party, and their supporters,” an email sent from the Oakland County GOP after the town hall read. “One of their main tactics right now is attending our Republican elected officials Town Halls and Coffee Hours and shouting and heckling our legislators.”

The left-wing activists reportedly belonged to the progressive group Michigan People’s Campaign, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Saturday’s town hall was the first Trott held since his re-election in November. His spokeswoman, Katie Vincentz, cited Trott’s “robust” schedule in Washington as the reason for his absence from his district. Trott has scheduled another town hall for April.

About 500 attendees packed into the town hall, despite nearly 1,000 people showing up before some were turned away by security, Michigan Live reported.

Trott is in his second term in Congress and was a successful businessman and lawyer before holding public office.
