Bearing Arms editor Bob Owens is being mourned after apparently committing suicide on May 8, 2017.

Owens was found by police just before 11 a.m. by a stop sign outside his subdivision in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.

The News & Observer reported:

Police are investigating the death of a person whose body was found on the sidewalk at the entrance of a subdivision late Monday morning.

Police were called about an injured man shortly before 11 a.m. at the entrance of the Southern Oaks subdivision at the intersection of Sequoia Ridge Drive and Judd Parkway, said town spokeswoman Susan Weis. When officers arrived, they found Robert Eugene Owens, 46, dead near a stop sign, with a gun nearby.

Just prior to his death, Owens posted a message on Facebook: “In the end, it turns out that I’m not strong. I’m a coward, and a selfish son of a bitch. I’m sorry.”

Bob was the editor of Bearing Arms and a staunch Second Amendment advocate. He described himself as a “Husband, Father, Son, Brother, [and a] crappy shooter who writes a bit about firearms, training, and policy.” His co-editor at Bearing Arms, Jenn Jacques, reports that Bob had two daughters, aged 9 and 17.

Bob was also a friend. And at the NRA Annual Meetings, the NSSF SHOT Show, and other industry gatherings, we always made time to get together and catch up on the latest developments in the Second Amendment community and in our own lives. Those times will be missed. Bob will be missed.
