An intrusion suspect in Alabama Shores, Alabama, was found wounded in the woods after getting into a gun battle with a homeowner a short time earlier.

The gun battle erupted about 3 a.m.

According to the Times Daily, Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson said the homeowner awoke to the sounds of someone trying to get into this house then saw the suspect “standing in the doorway between the bedroom and kitchen.”  The homeowner warned the suspect that he had a gun and the suspect allegedly responded by pointing out that he had a gun too. Shots began to ring out.

Sheriff Williamson believes “nearly a dozen shots were fired” in total and the intruder fled the home. Williamson said the suspect ran into a wooded area with his girlfriend, and that is where he was discovered with gunshot wounds once the morning sun illuminated the area.

The sheriff said it appears the girlfriend and the robbery suspect’s 18-year-old son waited outside in a car throughout the home invasion. Both were taken into custody.

The homeowner was not injured in the exchange of gunfire.
