Karen Handel’s election win in the sixth congressional district of Georgia Tuesday night made her the first Republican woman elected to Congress from Georgia. It was a hard-fought race that left the feminist left conspicuously silent on the milestone.
Handel noted in her victory speech “the obligation of being the first Republican woman elected to Congress from the great state of Georgia,” as the crowd shouted, “Karen! Karen! Karen!”
She also recalled meeting a young eight-year-old girl on the campaign trail who told her, “Karen if you can win, it says to every eight-year-old girl that she can do it, too.”
“You did it, girl!” a supporter had yelled as Handel began her victory speech.

Some celebrated Handel’s victory with the hashtag “#ShePersisted” — used by the left in support of Hillary Clinton and more recently, California Sen. Kamala Harris (D), after she was interrupted several times during a Senate hearing, or #ImWithHer, a Clinton rallying cry.
