Rep. Al Green (D-TX) said that black people should not accept invitations to the White House until President Trump apologizes for calling the NFL players who took a knee during the national anthem a “son of a bitch.”
“Every black person in this country ought to be up in arms about what he said about mothers,” Green said in an interview with the Joe Madison Show on SiriusXM radio.
“Every black person ought to give some consideration, if you get an invitation, as to whether you will go to the White House until he either retracts that statement or does something else to atone, because this requires atonement,” Green continued. “This cannot go unchallenged. He has insulted the mothers of the country. These are the people who bring life to the world. I refuse to allow it to go unchallenged.”
Green added that Trump’s comments reached a new level of “indecency.”
The Democratic lawmaker is not shy about his distaste for Trump. Green spoke on the House floor Tuesday calling for Trump to be impeached over his NFL comments.
Green was also one of the first lawmakers in Congress to call for Trump’s impeachment in May.
