A female prison worker has been caught having sex with an inmate at a New York state prison where a prison employee helped two high-profile murderers escape two years ago, authorities said.

Denise Prell, 38, was arrested after a corrections officer reported “inappropriate behavior” between the inmate and the civilian employee, the New York Daily News reported. The incident took place at the Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York, the same facility where prison seamstress Joyce Mitchell aided convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat in their escape from prison two years ago.

Authorities say Prell was fired shortly after they launched an investigation into her conduct that revealed she smuggled contraband items into the prison.

Prell was charged with sexual abuse and promoting prison contraband at her arraignment hearing Wednesday and is being held on $10,000 bond.

Mitchell, who is serving up to seven years behind bars for her role in the escape of two murderers, was convicted of a felony charge of first-degree promoting prison contraband and one misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree criminal facilitation.

She had been denied parole in February.
