President Donald Trump expressed his personal views about the AT&T-Time Warner merger, which his Justice Department is pursuing a lawsuit to block.
“[P]ersonally, I’ve always felt that that was a deal that’s not good for the country,” Trump said about the proposed merger. “I think your pricing is going to go up. I don’t think it’s a good deal for the country.”
The president made his brief remarks about the case as he was leaving the White House to spend Thanksgiving break at his Mar-a-lago club in Florida.
The proposed $108 billion merger of AT&T and Time Warner includes news channel CNN and is one of the largest deals in media and telecommunications history.
Lawmakers in both parties have expressed concern with the proposed deal.
Trump said he wouldn’t get involved with the case, as it was still in litigation.
The Department of Justice argued in their lawsuit that the deal violated antitrust law, which would be harmful to their customers.
