Rosie O’Donnell Maxes Out Donations for Democratic Alabama Senate Candidate Doug Jones

Rosie O’Donnell has maxed out donations to get Democrat Doug Jones, who is trailing behind Republican candidate Judge Roy Moore, elected to Alabama’s U.S. senate seat on December 12.

O’Donnell donated the maximum possible of $2,700 to Doug Jones, Federal Election Commission records show.

O’Donnell’s contribution has helped bring Jones’s total donations raised up to $12 million. She has also taken to Twitter in an attempt to turn out the vote for Jones from outside the state.

On Sunday, she retweeted fellow Hollywood celebrity Alyssa Milano’s tweet urging followers to participate in a “Tweetstorm” for Jones.

O’Donnell has also maxed out donations to Texas Democratic senate candidate U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) in his bid to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). Cruz fired back a tweet, calling her an “out of touch” liberal.

It is not the first time O’Donnell has tried to wield her celebrity status to elect a Democrat in a state election. She also donated the maximum to Democrat Jon Ossoff, who ran unsuccessfully for Georgia’s U.S. House of Representatives seat this year. Ossoff lost to Karen Handel, despite raising $30 million in donations.

Republican opponent Judge Roy Moore leads Jones by 3.8 percentage points, according to an average of the latest polls.
