An employee at a 7-Eleven pulled his own gun and opened fire, leaving a robbery suspect lying on the floor in critical condition.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in Chicago’s Oak Park suburb.
According to the Chicago Tribune, three suspects allegedly entered the store “wearing masks or bandanas over their faces and at last one of them was allegedly armed. A store employee with a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card drew his own gun and shot one of the suspects, causing the other two to flee.
Officers arrived to find the wounded suspect lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Two other 7-Eleven employees were in the store at the time of the alleged robbery attempt and neither were harmed.
Police indicate “the same 7-Eleven store had been robbed at gunpoint.” That robbery occurred in the middle of the afternoon on December 8. The armmed suspect was wearing “a black scarf” over his face and made off with $147.
