Police indicate that a concealed carry permit holder shot and critically wounded a robbery suspect on Chicago’s South Side Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m.

According to the Sun-Times Media Wire, a 27-year-old permit holder was pulling his car into a lot on “the 9100 block of South Blackstone” when a male suspect approached with a weapon drawn. Chicago Police say the permit holder was able to draw his gun and open fire, shooting the robbery in the suspect in the chest.

The suspect was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

On March 10, 2017, Breitbart News reported that the number of concealed carry permits issued to Chicago residents in 2016 was up nearly 50 percent compared to the number issued in 2015. The acquisition of concealed carry permits has been evident in stories of Chicagoans defending their lives and liberty when under assault.

On April 17, 2015, an Uber driver with a concealed carry permit drew his gun and opened fire to thwart an attempted mass shooting. On September 29, 2016, Breitbart News reported that a permit holder in Chicago opened fire when allegedly approached by two suspects with handguns. He killed one of the suspects, causing the second suspect to flee. And on May 11, 2017, Breitbart News reported that a permit holder shot an alleged carjacker on Chicago’s Southwest side.

Concealed carry in Chicago is now receiving a boost from black women who are arming up to defend their families on the South Side. The Chicago Tribune reported that 51-year-old Vernetta Robinzine got her carry permit in the spring and references her gun by saying, “It’s like a part of me now.” She lives in Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood, where she had put so many locks on her doors that “she felt like a prisoner in her own house.”

Robinzine was empowered by the acquisition of a gun and a carry permit.
