Conservatives Cheer the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act’s Passage in the House

Conservatives cheered the House passage of historic tax reform legislation through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

The House passed the final tax reform legislation almost entirely on partisan lines. Twelve Republicans voted against the bill, while no Democrats voted for the tax reform legislation.

House Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) cheered the tax reform’s legislation, saying:

Today is a momentous day for America. The forgotten men and women of our country voted to elect President Trump and a Republican Congress to fix our broken tax code that taxes Americans too highly, ships their jobs overseas, and directly undermines the fundamental principles that make America great. Passage of this bill is a monumental step toward doing just that. We’re giving the American people their money back. We’re making the country more competitive for job creation and wage growth. And we’re igniting the kind of economic growth that every American deserves.

Tonight, as the Senate passes tax reform and sends the bill to President Trump’s desk, the American people will finally begin to see the results from the Congress they voted for on November 8, 2016. Hopefully, we’re just getting started.

Congressman Lou Barletta (R-PA), who is challenging Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), cheered the Tax Cut and Jobs Act’s passage through the House in a statement.

Barletta charged:

Today, Congress gave millions of American families a renewed and revitalized shot at prosperity. For a generation, Americans have seen good paying jobs leave our shores and their wages stagnate while the government continued to take more and more money out of their paychecks.  Washington forgot the American family and worker. Instead of fighting for Americans, Washington has been fighting to fill the coffers of faceless, nameless bureaucrats. Today, we made clear to Washington the old way of doing business is over. This is a new era of American prosperity. The plan will bring higher wages, create more employment opportunities, and deliver a tax cut to every income group. This tax plan is a much needed Christmas gift every American family. I am very excited to have been part of such a historic event.

Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, tweeted, “We did it! The House just passed the Conference Report for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Onto the Senate and hopefully to ‘ ‘s desk by tomorrow! This is an historic day for our country”:

Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund congratulates the House of Representatives for delivering on the promise to pass tax reform that allows the American people to keep more of their hard-earned money and reforming our tax code to be flatter, fairer, and simpler. We appreciate that the House was willing to amend their version of tax reform to include repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate, which will lift a huge burden from the American people and hopefully set us on a path to full repeal of Obamacare so people have more choice and freedom in choosing a healthcare plan. We hope the bill will quickly make its way to President Trump’s desk for his signature so we can begin working towards keeping other important promises in 2018, like securing our borders, repealing every remaining word of Obamacare, and passing a budget that balances and sets us on a path to eliminating more than $20 trillion in debt.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) charged on the House Floor on Tuesday that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will be a great “Christmas present for the American people.”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, on the House Floor on Tuesday, said the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is the “worst bill to ever come to the Floor of the House” and is a “looting of America.”

Pelosi added that the bill will “install a permanent plutocracy in America.”

New reports suggest that the Senate will vote on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act as soon as Tuesday night.

The Republican legislation features massive tax cuts for middle-class families and small businesses. It also repeals Obamacare’s individual mandate. The final version reduces the corporate tax rate from 35 to 20 percent, opens up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for oil drilling, and doubles the standard deduction for individuals and married couples.

Phil Kerpen, the president of American Commitment, tweeted on Tuesday, “Congress is going to have three enormous legislative accomplishments this year– tax reform, Obamacare mandate repeal, ANWR– and they happen to all be in the same bill. Big day today”:

President Donald Trump said that passing the tax reform bill would ensure a “Merry Christmas” for the country.

He tweeted on Tuesday, “ Stocks and the economy have a long way to go after the Tax Cut Bill is totally understood and appreciated in scope and size. Immediate expensing will have a big impact. Biggest Tax Cuts and Reform EVER passed. Enjoy, and create many beautiful JOBS!”:
