A mother in Blakely, Georgia, fought back a home invasion suspect with a spoon on Saturday then managed to pull a gun and shoot him dead.

The alleged attacker, 53-year old Michael Lindsey, was a convicted sex offender.

According to WTVY, Lindsey was found hiding in a closet inside the home. A struggle ensued and the mother held Lindsey off with a spoon before shooting him. Police believe he stumbled out of the house and collapsed on the front lawn after being shot.

He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The mother’s 12-year-old daughter was in the home at the time of the incident.

Early County Investigator Captain Will Caudill said, “Deputies arrived at the scene and insured the safety of the victims who had locked themselves inside a room because they weren’t sure if the intruder was still inside the home.”

Caudill also indicated that “Lindsey molested a child in 1999 and is listed on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry.”
