From a podium in the White House East Room, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite on Tuesday declared the importance of sometimes having “unpredictable leadership” when seeking leverage on Russia for the defense of the Baltic nations.

Grybauskaite stood alongside president Donald Trump and the presidents of two other Baltic nations — Estonia and Latvia — as she proclaimed the need for “leadership, sometimes for decision making, even unpredictable leadership to make enough leverage on Russia, or rivals, to believe that we can make a decision.”

“We see this kind of leadership in President Trump,” said the Lithuanian President.

She called leadership such as Trump’s:

…good because without the leverage on Russia there will be no additional spending in our defense in NATO, there will be no additional decisions for protecting the military forces of United States in our countries, there will be no willingness to look in to the matter of air defense which we need very much.

This contributes to trust between the nations, the Lithuanian leader informed, and to the defense of the Baltic region and other NATO territories, and more peace and security for the world.

She went on to discuss the importance of discussions in meetings that day of economic cooperation between the U.S. and Baltic region. As the result of business meetings that day, Grybauskaite said that Latvia will sign deals with two U.S. liquid gas providers.
