Montana TV Station Refuses to Air ‘Blatantly False’ Russell Fagg Super PAC Ad Attacking Matt Rosendale

KTMF, a local Montana ABC affiliate TV station, refused to air a “blatantly false” attack ad on Sunday which attacked state auditor and U.S. Senate Republican primary candidate Matt Rosendale.

Kendall Cotton, Rosendale’s campaign manager, said in a statement on Monday:

An out-of-state special interest group supporting Russ Fagg’s campaign is trying to spend tens of thousands of dollars on blatantly false TV ads to deceive voters. … I commend this Montana station for refusing to air these out-of-state lies that are being told to try and sway an election ahead of the primary.

KTMF refused to air an ad from Russell Fagg’s Super PAC, Principles First. Fagg is Rosendale’s leading primary opponent in the Montana Senate Republican primary.

Cotton added, “Montana voters won’t fall for these false attacks because they know that Matt Rosendale means business and is the only candidate in this race who can stop Jon Tester from serving another six years in the U.S. Senate.”

Breitbart News reported in May that Fagg supports an Internet sales tax for the state of Montana. Rosendale contends that Montanans do not want another tax.

Fagg admitted, “To answer your question directly, yes I would support an online sales tax.”

In March, Fagg backtracked on his comments regarding his support for Internet sales tax, arguing he never said that.

“I actually did not say I would support an internet tax,” Fagg said.

Rosendale leads his closest Republican primary opponent, Fagg, by more than double digits, according to a poll released by Club for Growth in April.

Matt Rosendale remains the sole Montana Republican primary candidate who has had current members of the U.S. Senate endorse his campaign. More than 30 Montana-elected officials have also endorsed Rosendale.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) endorsed Rosendale, as well, to challenge Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) in the 2018 Senate midterm election.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who endorsed Rosendale for U.S. Senate, wrote an op-ed in the Montana Independent Record that Rosendale is a “fearless conservative leader.”

Paul wrote, “I’ve endorsed Matt Rosendale because I believe he will drain the swamp and will vote for a limited Constitutional government even if that means standing up to big spenders in the Republican Party.”

“I’ve gotten to know Matt and he means business about fixing Washington,” Paul added. “He’s a strong-willed fighter who will take on the special interest status quo to demand a balanced budget, greater transparency in the federal government, and protect our constitutional rights.”

Rosendale said in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News Saturday, “We want to push through the primary, unite the party here in Montana, and take on Jon Tester and send him back to his farm.”
