President Donald J. Trump reacted Friday to the latest statement from North Korea, noting the marked change in tone after he canceled a June 12 meeting with dictator Kim Jong-un in Singapore.

“Very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea,” Trump said. “We will soon see where it will lead, hopefully to long and enduring prosperity and peace. Only time (and talent) will tell!”
Trump was reacting to North Korea’s response to his decision to cancel the meeting.

“Our commitment to doing our best for the sake of peace and stability for the world and the Korean Peninsula remains unchanged, and we are open-minded in giving time and opportunity to the U.S.,” North Korea’s Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kim Kye-gwan said in statement, adding that officials were “very sorry” the summit could not take place.

Trump canceled the meeting on Thursday via a letter after the North Korean regime called Vice President Mike Pence a “political dummy” over demands for denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and failed to show up for meetings with American officials.

“Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting,” Trump wrote in the letter.
