Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate and Lt. Governor of Georgia Casey Cagle said on Saturday that President Donald Trump’s effort to enforce federal immigration laws that are on the books but ignored by the previous administration is in keeping with his campaign pledge to put Americans’ best interest first.

The left and the media are fabricating a disaster on the U.S./ Mexico border as a steady stream of people — many with children in tow — are trying to slip into the United States illegally.

“Literally, if President Trump found the cure to cancer, the media will blame him” for something, Cagle told Washington Political Editor Matt Boyle on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM Patriot 125. “It seems like it’s never-ending and this certainly is not his fault.”

“It’s just enforcing the law and, quite honestly, is doing what’s right for the citizens of our country,” Cagle said.

Cagle praised the president for his efforts to secure the border and said, if he is elected governor, he will fight illegal immigration in Georgia, including enforcing the state’s sanctuary city ban and deploying its National Guard if necessary to help secure the border.

He also said he wants to protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights, including gun and ammunition manufacturers in Georgia that have been the target of anti-NRA financial institutions’ threats to stop servicing those businesses.

Cagle chided his fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill who have not backed the president’s agenda and worked to get it done.

“Congress needs to get behind him, support him, and do the right thing,” Cagle said.

Cagle said he believes Trump won the presidency because he stuck to conservative principles, including looking out for every citizen, and he wants to do the same thing in Georgia.

“These are the things that win — putting Americans first,” Cagle said.

Cagle faces a runoff election on July 24 against Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp to make the Republican ticket for November’s midterm elections.
