The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office in Norfolk, Virginia, let loose on Monday, joining multiple law enforcement agencies in the U.S. taking the #LipSyncChallenge going viral on social media.
The video shows law enforcement officers dancing in prison jumpsuits and police uniforms while lip syncing to a mash-up of popular songs including “My House” by Flo Rida and “In My Feelings” by Drake.
“We had a blast with our lip sync challenge, and can’t wait to share the video with you on Monday!” the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook in a post previewing the video.
The sheriff’s office is the latest law enforcement agency throughout the U.S. to join the #LipSyncChallenge trending on Twitter.
Many law enforcement agencies joined the trend when the Norfolk Police Department–not to be confused with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Department—released its lip-sync video of “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars in early July.
The trend began when the Corinth Police Department in Texas challenged the Norfolk Police Department to a friendly lip sync video battle. Soon, other law enforcement agencies across the country jumped on the trend.
The Columbus Police Department in Indiana also released their mash-up video on Monday, featuring a cameo appearance from NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and a list of songs including “Oops I Did It Again” by Britney Spears, “Party In the USA” by Miley Cyrus, and “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey.
Many law enforcement offices around the country say these lip sync videos are a way to better relate to their communities.
“There’s this kind of perception that we might be like robots; that we’re so matter-of-fact all the time, and the truth is we’re no different then everyone else,” Norfolk Police Department Corporal William Pickering Jr. told WTKR.
