Police say a nine-year-old boy in Union County, North Carolina, was robbed at gunpoint while working a lemonade stand Saturday.

The boy was not harmed and police believe the suspect rode a bike to woods by the stand, then ditched the bike before approaching the stand on foot.

Fox 46 reports that the Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) responded to a robbery call around 3 pm. Deputies indicated “that a teenager walked up to a lemonade stand, stuck a gun to a nine-year-old boy’s stomach and demanded money.”

USCO’s Tony Underwood said, “I think people are capable of a lot of things, but not robbing a child at a lemonade stand, that takes it to a new level.”

The nine-year-old’s father, Philip Smith, said, “Never had an incident like this, never thought this would happen.” He added, “It’s pretty low, despicable in my book and I can’t believe someone would stoop that low to steal money from him.”

Fox News reports that the suspect was described as “a black male teen wearing a camouflage hat and black shirt.” While searching the wooded area by the stand law enforcement found “the hat, black BB handgun,” and the metal tin container in which the nine-year-old boy kept proceeds from lemonade sales.
