Sheen Says GOP Wants to 'Eliminate' Medicare

President Barack Obama would have fixed everything over the last three years if not for those meddlesome Republicans.

So suggests Martin Sheen, the notoriously outspoken liberal actor in a new video meant to support the president’s re-election campaign and flailing ObamaCare legislation.

Sheen, best known in recent years for playing the president on NBC’s “The West Wing,” lets loose with this whopper:

The same Republicans in Congress who obstructed Mr. Obama every step on the road back now want to end Medicare, eliminate it altogether,” Sheen says. “And what is their goal? Simply to sacrifice Medicare in order to give tax cuts to special interests. That is not the America I was raised to love.

Sheen is a veteran political activist, and frankly this kind of empty rhetoric is beneath him. Then again, Sheen does that cool move in the video where he whips off his reading glasses before addressing the camera.

Fans of the actor’s work are better off renting “The Way,” a terrific drama featuring Sheen directed by his son, Emilio Estevez. Or, wait until later this summer when Sheen plays Uncle Ben in the “Spider-Man” reboot.
