NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) — The Irish musical “Once” led the field with 11 nominations when Tony Award nods were announced Tuesday in New York.
Up for Best Play are “Clybourne Park,” “Other Desert Cities,” “Peter and the Starcatcher” and “Venus in Fur.”
Shortlisted for Best Musical are “Leap of Faith,” “Newsies,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and “Once.”
The nominees for Best Revival of a Play are “Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman,” “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man,” “Master Class” and “Wit.”
Nominated for Best Revival of a Musical are “Evita,” “Follies,” “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
Vying for the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play are James Corden for “One Man, Two Guvnors,” Philip Seymour Hoffman for “Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman,” James Earl Jones for “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man,” Frank Langella for “Man and Boy” and John Lithgow for “The Columnist.”
In the running for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play are Nina Arianda for “Venus in Fur,” Tracie Bennett for “End of the Rainbow,” Stockard Channing for “Other Desert Cities,” Linda Lavin for “The Lyons” and Cynthia Nixon for “Wit.”
The nominees for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical are Danny Burstein for “Follies,” Jeremy Jordan for “Newsies,” Steve Kazee for “Once,” Norm Lewis for “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess” and Ron Raines for “Follies.”
Shortlisted for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical are Jan Maxwell for “Follies,” Audra McDonald for “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess,” Cristin Milioti for “Once,” Kelli O’Hara for “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and Laura Osnes for “Bonnie & Clyde.”

The 66th annual Tony Awards will be broadcast on CBS June 10, live from New York’s Beacon Theatre. Honoring the year’s best in Broadway theater, the awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. Actor Neil Patrick Harris is to serve as host of the prize presentation.
