Weinstein Buys Libya Doc, Eyes Boost for Obama

Harvey Weinstein hasn’t acquired the second of two films about the hunt for terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden pictures – yet. But he’s already gobbled up a documentary about Libya’s changing political landscape.

And Weinstein, a major bundler for President Barack Obama, made clear his purchase has plenty to do with politics and the upcoming presidential election.

Here’s part of the statement he released regarding the acquisition of “The Oath of Tobruk” at the Cannes Film Festival:

He described the buy as a political move, designed to provide hope for other countries in the region like Syria. In a statement, he said that the film “highlights the invaluable leadership from President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. American audiences will get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how our government and the French government worked together to stop the slaughter of innocent civilians and brilliantly handled the overthrow of a government.”

We rarely hear about the “invaluable leadership” of Republican leaders when America takes down a murderous dictator.
