Trailer Talk: Will 'Sinister' Bring Real Scares to Floundering Horror Genre?

There may not be many fans of of actors Ethan Hawke and Vincent D’onofrio on this site (though they are both great storytellers), but both star in an upcoming horror film entitled “Sinister” that looks to be the rare modern horror film with legitimate scares.

The film’s synopsis: Found footage helps a true-crime novelist realize how and why a familywas murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entirefamily in the path of a supernatural entity.

“Sinister” looks like it’ll be a breath of fresh air for horror fans as it shies away from the “found footage” style – even though it literally involves found footage.

The film advertises itself as being from the producer of “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious,” which makes sense since many visual moments in the trailer felt eerily similar to “Insidious.” Let’s hope “Sinister” has some more originality and isn’t a mediocre rip off of that surprise hit. The trailer suggests, however, that we could be up for some nice scares come October 5th.

Interesting note: The film also features Fred Dalton Thompson in a supporting role as a sheriff. The character actor unsuccessfully ran for the Republican nomination for the 2008 presidential election and is back in the film game.
