Box Office Predictions: 'Spider-Man' to Snag Less than Amazing Ticket Haul

Last week saw Sensei’s call streak end at eight weeks. The new “Spider-Man” film will easily crush all newcomers, but will not show the strength we’re used to seeing from the wall crawler.

This weekend’s predictions and revenue results go as follows:

1. “The Amazing Spider-Man” ($64 million) – Word of mouth so far suggests more “unneeded reboot” than exciting franchise start. Film will easily win weekend, but will fade much quicker than past “Spider Man” entries.

2. “Ted” (28 million) – Last week’s surprise winner is headed for a big drop and could suffer even bigger ones in coming weeks. Regardless, Mark Wahlberg has shown that even with a crude talking bear, he can pull in respectable box office numbers.

3. “Brave” ($22 million) – Pixar’s latest hit will continue to draw in family audiences and provided a much needed alternative choice for younger crowds.

4. “Magic Mike” ($18 million) – Another film that over-performed last week. This one will suffer a large drop as well and could quickly vanish from audience’s minds in coming weeks. Interesting to see Channing Tatum see his “GI Joe” sequel move from last week’s opening date and instead leave him with this male dancer movie to work with.

5. “Savages” ($13 million) – Sadly, it appears Taylor Kitsch’s fate as a leading man is sealed with another low opening. This to follow his box office disappointments in “John Carter” and “Battleship” earlier this year.

In other calls, look for “Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D” to only pull in around $7 million. “Moonrise Kingdom” will do well with around $4 million.

Have a great weekend.
