Hype Meets Reality: Spike Lee Says Expectations for 'Black Jesus' Obama Too High

In 2008 Spike Lee famously declared we would soon measure time by a new yard stick – Before Barack and After Barack.

Now, the director is complaining expectations were too high for a man he dubs, “Black Jesus.”

“He was a savior, Black Jesus,” the actor-director told CNN’s Don Lemon in an interview airing in its entirety Saturday. “Look, don’t care who it was. Expectations were way too high….”

When asked if Obama has lived up to his promise, Lee answered: “Look, the man’s not perfect. Who’s perfect?”
