Van Halen's David Lee Roth Once Insured His Private Parts

Here’s a fun fact that likely won’t be featured in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame anytime soon. Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth admitted to a curious insurance policy he took out at the start of the showman’s musical career.

Addressing a rumor that he had his entire body insured, he pointed out that he had, in fact, only insured “Little Elvis.” He mentioned that this was a case of, “Get out of the way of a good rumor.”

He said that before the band went on an early tour, “We had to insure [guitarist] Edward’s fingers, since he will be using those a lot on the road, and [drummer] Alex Van Halen’s elbows. So I said, ‘What about Little Elvis? We’re going to be using him a lot.”

Roth, a former EMT and radio talk show host, is back on the road with his old Van Halen mates.
