Barbara Walters Mum on Retirement

Jay Leno is only 62 years old, and the Tonight Show mainstay is being pushed out of his gig for a younger alternative.

ABC may have the same thing in mind with The View co-host Barbara Walters. But the 83-year-old broadcast pioneer isn’t about to announce her retirement quite yet.

“If and when I have an announcement to make, I would make it on this program,” Walters told the View audience earlier today.

Last week, several outlets reported Walters would be leaving the show she helped create in May 2014. Walters herself never made such an announcement, and today’s View hints that a signal or two may have been crossed along the way.
