'Evil Dead' Remake Leads Weekend Box Office

LOS ANGELES, April 7 (UPI)–“Evil Dead (2013),” starring Jane Levy and Shiloh Fernandez, crept into first place during the weekend with $26 million in box office receipts.

“G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” starring The Rock and Bruce Willis, was tied for second with $21.1 million.

“The Croods,” an animated film with the voices of Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone, also brought in $21.1 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

“Jurassic Park 3D” was a close fourth with $18.247 million; “Olympus Has Fallen” fifth with $10.042 million; “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” sixth with $10 million; “Oz The Great and Powerful” seventh with $8.171 million; “The Host (2013)” eighth with $5.239 million; “The Call” ninth with $3.5 million.

“Admission” rounded out the top 10 with $2.054 million.
