Mulligan Turns Down Hillary Biopic

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may be one of the most popular liberal politicians in America, but that and five bucks still can’t buy her a star to play her in the proposed biopic Rodham

First, Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) downplayed rumors that she was up for the role of young Hillary (no doubt the striped pants and Waldo glasses didn’t help). Then Scarlett Johansson’s rep (The Avengers) downplayed rumors, too. Finally, Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby) turned it down, too.

The film itself sounds like a bizarre concoction of fact and fiction. The Daily Beast, which somehow got hold of a draft of the screenplay, reported that the film focuses on Bill’s female problems (he talks about the “firmest juiciest melons” in Hope, Arkansas, and assures Hillary that a young coed exiting his office is just a former student), Hillary’s obsession with power (“You can’t both be president!” is one line supposedly uttered by Betsey Wright), and Hillary’s pantsuits (the script explains the pantsuit obsession).
