Streisand Lectures Israelis on Women's Rights

Visiting Israel, singer Barbra Streisand immediately launched into a broadside against the country’s religious citizens, who stress separation between men and women. Speaking at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, she stated, “It’s distressing to read about women in Israel being forced to sit in the back of the bus, or when we hear about ‘Women of the Wall’ having metal chairs thrown at them when they attempt to peacefully and legally pray.”

Ultra-Orthodox buses in Israel are segregated by sex; the vast majority of buses in Israel are sex neutral. Jews who attempt to prevent other Jews from praying at the Western Wall have been arrested. Streisand is scheduled to attend the 90th birthday party of Israel’s President Shimon Peres this week. She has been conspicuously silent about the human rights violations of Muslim states.
