First Lady Welcomes National Design Award Winners

First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed a stylish entourage to the White House last week, a group which included Project Runway host Tim Gunn.

A group of unusually well-dressed visitors lined up at the southeast gate of the White House Friday, when the winners of the 2013 National Design Awards joined First Lady Michelle Obama for a celebratory lunch….

Others patiently waiting for security checks were fashion consultant and television host Tim Gunn, and fashion designer Isabel Toledo with her husband Ruben, who both served on the jury….

Contributing to the glow of the occasion was a four-course lunch that included grilled apricots with Virginia cured ham, herb ravioli with pea puree and Wagyu beef with roasted cauliflower pudding. Some of the guests’ seasonally small purses were also bulging with small glasses of honey from the White House’s South Lawn that had dotted the tables as party favors.
