Left-Winger Susan Sarandon to Star in Mother/Daughter NBC Sitcom

NBC has given the greenlight for a new sitcom pilot titled Growing Ivy starring long-time left-winger Susan Sarandon and her daughter, Eva Amurri Martino. The pair will play a mother and daughter “working on their relationship.”

Martino is to play Ivy Davis, a type A, career-minded woman in her late 20s who is starting to realize that her career has left her little time for a personal life. The character had a tumultuous, unstable childhood thanks to mother “Frankie” (Sarandon) and decides to ask her mom to move in with her to repair their relationship.

Sarandon will play “Frankie” as a “freewheeling, eccentric mom.”

The pilot is being written by Will McCormack and star Martino. McCormack, an actor whose career began in the late ’90s, has one writing credit to his name–the 2012 romantic comedy Celeste & Jesse Forever–as well as a few producing credits.
