Criminal Buster: Dan Aykroyd Sworn in as Sheriff's Deputy

Waiting for Ghostbusters 3 gives a veteran comic like Dan Aykroyd plenty of time on his hands, apparently.

Aykroyd, one of Saturday Night Live’s original cast members and erstwhile Blues Brother, is now part of Mississippi’s Hinds County Sheriff Department’s reserve unit.

The Canadian native, 61, approached the department after spending time in the Magnolia State while filming Get on Up, a James Brown biopic in which the Ghostbusters star plays the late singer’s manager, Ben Bart….

This is not the first time the comic actor has joined legitimate crime-fighting forces: He served two law enforcement agencies in Louisiana for almost 16 years, reports the Clarion-Ledger.

Aykroyd got serious when he discussed how he could help the department in his own way.

I am able to go all over the world now and talk up this county, talk up this state and talk up the people of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department,” Aykroyd said, and explained one of his goals is to raise money for units so cash-strapped they “can’t even afford ammunition for practice.
