'Girls' Star Adam Driver Cast as 'Star Wars' Villain

The last time we saw Adam Driver he was lounging with Lena Dunham in that controversial Vogue photo spread.

Now, the Girls co-star will be a key player in one of the most popular film franchise of the past 30-plus years.

Driver will play a villain in director J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the Star Wars franchise. He joins a pantheon of space bad guys alongside Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Jabba the Hut.

The web has been inundated with casting rumors since the project was first announced. The original trilogy’s main stars–Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher–appear ready to resume their iconic roles. Other actors, while mentioned repeatedly at sci-fi friendly web sites, have yet to be confirmed.

The upcoming Star Wars film will hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
