Melissa McCarthy to Debut Plus-Size Clothing Line

LOS ANGELES, June 4 (UPI)–Actress Melissa McCarthy is tired of being disappointed in fashion.

The 43-year-old Bridesmaids actress covers the July issue of Redbook, and shares her frustration in the interview with the lack of fashion choices for plus-size women. She plans to launch her own plus-size clothing line, and illustrates her point with an anecdote about the 2012 Academy Awards.

“When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed,” she begins. “Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers — very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people — and they all said no.”

McCarthy was a Best Actress nominee at the ceremony for her role as Megan in Bridesmaids. She starred in Identity Thief and The Heat in 2013, and is scheduled to appear in the upcoming movies Tammy and St. Vincent.

“Success doesn’t define us, even though we love what we do,” she says of herself and actor husband Ben Falcone. “The important thing is our family and kids.”

“I see teenagers or people who are 21 and think, ‘I was an idiot at that age,'” she continues. “I was running around New York like a crazy woman. Thank God I only had three and a half cents to my name. I was too immature to handle success then.”

The July issue of Redbook with Melissa McCarthy goes on sale June 10.
