NASHVILLE, July 10 (UPI)–Garth Brooks has postponed retirement once again.
The 52-year-old country star plans to make a comeback with a new album and worldwide tour. Brooks retired from recording in 2000, and finished a five-year residency at the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas earlier this year.
The singer announced a new record deal with Sony Music on Thursday, and jokingly told reporters he is both “scared” and “old.” He also plans to make his catalogue of music digitally available for the first time. Fans can download songs exclusively on his website beginning July 15.
Brooks’ last studio album, Scarecrow, was released in 2001. His first new single could arrive “sometime in the next two months,” and the upcoming record will debut around Thanksgiving. The album is reportedly “what we would traditionally think of as a double album, just because there’s a lot to say.”
According to SoundScan’s data from 1991 to the present, Brooks is the best-selling artist in the U.S. The musician has sold more than 69.6 million albums — none of them online. Comparatively, The Beatles have sold 68.5 million, Metallica 54.42 million and Mariah Carey 54.4 million.
