Heavy Metal Teens Snare Sony Record Deal

Three teens not old enough to earn a Learner’s Permit, let alone vote in an election, just signed a record deal that could earn them as much as $1.7 million.

Guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, bassist Alec Atkins, 13, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12 will make at least two albums for Sony meant to showcase their heavy metal chops.

The Brooklyn-based Unlocking the Truth has plenty of experience despite their age. They’ve already played at the Coachella festival and opened for Guns N’ Roses since being discovered by drummer Steve Jordan in 2012.

Jarad’s mother, Tabatha Dawkins, says the boys’ school work won’t suffer as their musical careers ramp up.

School work comes first. If their school work is not done, they don’t play,” she said.
