Police: Robin Williams Hanged Himself with Belt

In a Tuesday morning press conference, the Marin County Sheriff’s office confirmed that actor/comedian Robin Williams hanged himself. He was last seen alive by his wife late Sunday night. It was death by asphyxiation at his Northern California home and officially ruled a suicide.

Williams was found by his personal assistant around 10:30 am local time. When discovered, Williams was already dead and in a seated position slightly suspended by the belt wrapped around his neck and wedged between a door and a doorframe. Police also found “recent” cuts on the actor’s wrists and a small knife near his body.

A toxicology test will take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. The police refused to comment about the existence of a suicide note.
