In a recent interview with The Guardian, musician Kid Rock spoke bluntly about his fame, fortune, and family, and even made a few statements regarding some of the nation’s hottest political issues, including gay marriage, the war on drugs, and abortion.

The rocker first stated his belief that President Obama hasn’t fulfilled his campaign’s marquee promise, to politically change America, saying he feels the President has only further divided the country.

“I played Barack Obama’s inauguration even though I didn’t vote for him,” said Kid Rock, whose legal name is Robert Ritchie. “I didn’t agree with his policies, but there was an exciting sense of change in the air.” However, he said, “that promise hasn’t been fulfilled, the country is more divided than ever.”

Kid Rock, who identifies himself as a Republican, further elaborated his positions on some hot topics, revealing that he is rather moderate in regards to social issues:

Rock said:

I am definitely a Republican on fiscal issues and the military, but I lean to the middle on social issues. I am no fan of abortion, but it’s not up to a man to tell a woman what to do.

As an ordained minister I don’t look forward to marrying gay people, but I’m not opposed to it.

I don’t smoke much weed, it makes me dumb. But they should legalize and tax everything: pot, cocaine, heroin. Has it not been proven that people will always find a way to get what they want?

A vocal supporter of the second amendment, Kid Rock revealed himself to be an avid gun enthusiast who is always on the hunt for new pieces to add to his collection. “If someone invades your house, yeah, you can shoot them,” he said of his stance on firearms.

The rocker also fancies himself a man of the people regarding his education, saying “Schoolbook-wise,” he is not as educated as politicians but still feels he has a closer connection to the people around him, despite his refusal to join social media.“I don’t FaceTweet or whatever people do,” he said. “I understand that I’m the old guy now.”

He told The Guardian about his limited use of technology, saying, “I turn on my computer and look at porn a little bit, see what’s going on in the news, but that’s about it. I’m comfortable with that.”

“I’ve made a f–k-ton of money, but I’ve never made a dishonest dollar,” he said of his career. “I try to do right by the people around me.”

He closed the post offering no apologies, and stated his opinion of the once wildly popular musical genre “Rap-Rock,” which helped catapult him to superstardom more than a decade ago:

Rap-rock was what people wanted at the time, and they still love those songs at shows. But it turned into a lot of bulls**t and it turned out to be pretty gay…

If someone says you can’t say “gay” like that you tell them to go f**k themselves. You’re not going to get anything politically correct out of me.

Kid Rock’s 10th studio album, titled First Kiss, will be released on Feb. 24th.
