On January 20, rapper Doughbeezy, whose real name is Tai Carr, stumbled upon a home invasion at a friend’s Houston, Texas, residence and shot and killed one of the attackers.

Carr is being hailed as a “hero” in the aftermath of the incident.

According to My Fox Houston, Carr says that “he was attacked” by the invaders upon walking into his friend’s house. In a crazy scenario, Carr said the attackers then tried to force him back into his own car for carjacking/kidnapping. He was able to get away, retrieve a gun from the trunk of his car, and go back into the house to intervene in the home invasion.

Once back inside, he reportedly shot and killed one of the attackers. Another alleged attacker–23-year-old Marquez Romero Heckard–was arrested at “a nearby Wendy’s restaurant.”

The Houston Police Department said Carr’s case will go to a “grand jury as a result of the deadly shooting.” Carr’s friend, fellow rapper Paul Wall, stated, “I definitely see Doughbeezy as a hero.”

Carr shared details of the attack via Instagram:

My life was almost taken from me [on January 20]. Nothing or no one but God was watching over me, I’m suppose[d] to be dead. When the gunman got instructed to shoot me, he froze. When they tried to kidnap me in my own car, I was able to fight my way out the car before being pistol whipped. After being pistol whipped, my friend and her family pulled up and we all got instructed to go in the house and that’s when God made a way for [me] to break loose and make it back to my trunk for my pistol. If I never was able to break away for my trunk, I wouldn’t be here today telling you this story. Stop and take a second to thank God for very [sic] thing you have. And when you’re done, take a moment to tell your family and the people close to you that you love them. My daughter will be born in a week and if it wasn’t for God, I wouldn’t be here to see her to see her [sic] take her first breath. #Blessed
